Season 1 Episode 20: Blood Brothers

Content Warning: Language, Violence, Innuendo

Here are the plot points:
  1. John kills Pearl
  2. We see more of Stefan and Damon's backstory: They were killed by their father for associating with vampires. Stefan was also the one who forced Damon to feed and become a vampire when he didn't want to
  3. Stefan wants to die because of his belief that he is an awful person
  4. Damon and Alaric get a lead on Isobel but they track down (and eventually kill) a tomb vampire instead who was working for John
  5. John tells Elena that he knows that she knows about vampires
  6. John knows Damon has the device
  7. Elena does a lot to get through to Stefan and it works by the end of the episode
  8. Episode ends with Isobel coming up to Alaric at the bar
The tomb vampires are annoying but personally I thought Pearl was a decent character. She just wanted a home and not hurt anyone. She did not deserve to die. But of course John had to kill her because he is just that awful. But this episode keeps going with the whole depressing theme. We finally learn about when Stefan and Damon turned into vampires. If you remember the only way to complete the transition and die is the feed on someone. From the moment we learned that I think we all wondered who exactly Stefan and Damon killed to become vampires. Honestly it was a lot darker than I thought it would be although I shouldn't have been surprised. Basically Stefan killed his father (To be fair he didn't set out to do it, it just kind of happened.) and completed his transition. That whole scene was just lovely. Then we learn that Damon did not want to change (Because he believed Katherine was dead so therefore there was no point but still.) but Stefan forced him to. Just an interesting thing that explains some more about the tension between those two. All of that aside though John plays a big role in this episode and I hate his guts. Elena and Stefan go through a lot as a couple and come out on top. Even though I am a Damon and Elena person I think that Elena and Stefan have such a sweet and powerful relationship. She saved him in this episode and helped him work through these events of his past. The episode ends however on not such a hopeful note. Isobel is here and that can only mean bad news.
Here is a quote Damon says about Stefan, "From the moment Stefan had his first taste of human blood, he was a different person."

Season 2 Episode 10: The Sacrifice Content Warning: Violence (People's hearts are ripped out), Innuendo (implied sex), Language This episode is aptly named. Not the most depressing I've seen but well... you'll see: Luka's Dad steals some stuff from Elena's room Alaric and Jenna are progressing nicely Stefan and Damon are planning to steal the moonstone from Katherine. Season 2 Episode 1: The Return Content Warning: Language, Innuendo, Violence,  Here we are at another season. And it sure does start out with a bang: Elena is able to save John and get him to a hospital Damon brings up the kiss to Elena and quickly finds out that it was Katherine not Elena Stefan tells John he has to leave or Stefan will turn him into a vampire Mason Lockwood who is Tyler's Uncle who showed up for the funeral Katherine shows up at the after event for the funeral pretending to be Elena Bonnie threatens Damon using her powers Bonnie tries to threaten Katherine but it doesn't work and Stefan has to save Bonnie Katherine tells Stefan she came back for him Katherine tells Damon (after a heavy make out session) that she never loved him and always preferred Stefan Damon goes to Elena's room and does some serious "we have a connection" stuff.
