Image result for vampire diaries s1 e8 gifThere are a lot of beginnings and endings in this episode. If you thought things couldn't get more sad or confusing you are very wrong: 
  1. Lexi, Stefan's oldest friend, comes into town for Stefan's birthday
  2. The chief of police (Caroline's mom) is trying to figure out if Vicki really left town
  3. Elena and Stefan are still broken up
  4. Bonnie's grandma tells Bonnie to keep the crystal on to protect her
  5. Jeremy is completely different after the compulsion 
  6. Damon gives the chief of police vervain
  7. Bonnie shows Elena that she has magic
  8. Damon uses Caroline to set up a party and to attempt to get the crystal back. The latter fails
  9. Jenna believes Logan dumped her
  10. Stefan admits to Lexi that he is in love with Elena
  11. Matt and Caroline have a "moment." 
  12.  Damon attacks two people and leaves one alive compelling her to remember Lexi being the one who attacked them. Then when she identifies Lexi to the police Damon is the one that stakes Lexi
  13. Stefan is understandably angry at Damon saying that he will never change
  14. Bonnie has a sketchy dream where her ancestor says, "It's coming." And she wakes up in the middle of the woods
Lexi is one of the best characters in this whole show. And her story ends here. The one person who we can see really make Stefan relax and live a little. Before this we just see uptight and serious Stefan who is having to deal with a lot. Then Lexi shows up and we see a little deeper into his character. That makes it much more heartbreaking that she dies. Again I'm sure you're questioning my sanity at having Damon be my favorite character--and honestly when I was watching this for the first time I didn't know if I could ever get past this. But my personal feelings on the subject aside it does bring up two critical questions. First, How will Stefan continue forward after this? Second, What is Damon's endgame? This was clearly planned so what does he hope to gain from this? The secondary plot with Bonnie's magic has also continued to develop. It is now confirmed that Bonnie is not crazy but she has magic! But along with this new discovery she is having weird and foreboding visions. Elena hasn't "made up" with Stefan yet which, like I've mentioned before, I am grateful for. And this is not a "I hate Elena with Stefan so I'm glad their not together" thing, this is me admiring that Elena is acting like a rational and sane person. I cannot wait to continue the show!
Here is a quote that Lexi said to Elena when they were discussing Stefan, "When it's real, you can't walk away." 
And here is a honorary quote that Damon says, "Stefan smiles, alert the media."

Season 2 Episode 10: The Sacrifice Content Warning: Violence (People's hearts are ripped out), Innuendo (implied sex), Language This episode is aptly named. Not the most depressing I've seen but well... you'll see: Luka's Dad steals some stuff from Elena's room Alaric and Jenna are progressing nicely Stefan and Damon are planning to steal the moonstone from Katherine. Elena isn't fond of that plan because she doesn't want to incur the wrath of Klaus so she wants to give herself up instead. Bonnie and Luka are bonding...ugh. Season 2 Episode 1: The Return Content Warning: Language, Innuendo, Violence,  Here we are at another season. And it sure does start out with a bang: Elena is able to save John and get him to a hospital Damon brings up the kiss to Elena and quickly finds out that it was Katherine not Elena Stefan tells John he has to leave or Stefan will turn him into a vampire Mason Lockwood who is Tyler's Uncle who showed up for the funeral Katherine shows up at the after event for the funeral pretending to be Elena Bonnie threatens Damon using her powers Bonnie tries to threaten Katherine but it doesn't work and Stefan has to save Bonnie Katherine tells Stefan she came back for him Katherine tells Damon (after a heavy make out session) that she never loved him and always preferred Stefan Damon goes to Elena's room and does some serious "we have a connection" stuff.
