S1 E3: Friday Night Bites
Season 1 Episode 3: Friday Night Bites
Content Warning: Violence, Brief Almost Sex Scene (they take off their shirts), Language, Drug Talk, Alcohol Use
Another episode! If you thought that the stakes were high before you'd better believe they have gotten exceptionally higher. As usual here is a list of the important events that have occurred in this episode. - Bonnie is wary of Stefan because of this vibe she got when she touched him in the last episode
- Stefan and Elena are officially dating
- Jeremy and Vicki are still having drama: Jeremy is asking if they just had sex because he gave her drugs. Later on she tells him this is not true
- Tyler Lockwood is still an idiot
- Bonnie keeps seeing the numbers 8, 14, and 22
- Stefan, Elena, and Bonnie have a dinner get together thing so that Bonnie and Stefan can get along or whatever. Stefan and Bonnie talk about her being descended from witches
- Vampires have to be invited in
- Jeremy and Tyler fight not once but TWICE
- Damon and Katherine have a history
- Damon is manipulating people and threatens to be worse
- Stefan gives Elena a special necklace with vervain which protects against compulsion
- Damon tries to seduce Elena. Fails.
- Damon kills Mr. Tanner
So there is A LOT that happened in this episode. Bonnie is having a lot of weird stuff going on that she doesn't know how to make sense of it all. Stefan and Elena are officially a thing now--which is really fast but they are pretty cute together so the speed at which they got together doesn't bother me as much. On the other hand I am so over the Vicki, Jeremy, and Tyler love triangle. She is just going back and forth between the two of them as she pleases. Jeremy and Tyler aren't much better though with their constant whining and trying to one up each other. Tyler Lockwood is just an annoying person--but then again he is a highschool boy. All of that drama aside we do learn some interesting facts about vampires. They cannot go into houses without being invited in and a plant called vervain prevents them from being able to control humans. This promises to be an interesting development especially with Stefan deciding to make an effort to take Damon down. Speaking of Damon there is a lot going on with him. I'll start with the bad stuff though and then go on to the "good" stuff I noticed. The bad stuff was of course he tried to seduce Elena who was not happy about that. Then he kills Mr. Tanner to prove to Stefan that he really is a monster. But I do want to note that I think he does care about Elena. (Don't get me wrong I'm not saying he is in love with her.) The moment she said "I'm sorry about Katherine, you lost her too" I think something changed in his opinion of her. He looked at her in a whole new way because she actually thought about how he must feel about the situation. He's not used to that kindness. Just something I appreciated. But I've already gone on obnoxiously long. To sum it all up the stakes have gotten higher and the story is more intriguing. I will note (Possible Spoiler Ahead) that as someone who has watched the show before it is so weird to be back here. The characters are so different and they change so much.
"Years and Years of crossword puzzles. It's a loner thing." - Stefan to Elena when she asks about how he knows historical dates so well.
